I just read with sadness and with memories ablaze about Tonys' passing. I haven't seen Tony in nearly 20 years, however I recall him in a most favorable light. I recall golfing with him and his traveling with my father and mother (John & Charlotte Cirelli), Ann & Ray Cocchio, Pete Muschiano, and Bill & Evelyn Henry. Please know that my thoughts and prayers are with each of you at this difficult time. May God be with you and may you look to Him for strength and comfort.

With deepest sympathy, I just wanted to let you know that I appreciate the positive influence you had on me and my family. You certainly helped shape my life in ways I’m still discovering. I didn’t realize at the time, while playing football for you on the Edgewood Eagles Championship Teams, that I was also learning life lessons. I was pushed both mentally and physically beyond my capabilities to reach new personal bests. The feeling of winning a championship and proving you’re the best still gives me chills. As a coach myself, I know that getting kids to trust and believe in their coach is truly a gift. Whatever it is that makes a great coach, you have it. I’m sure I would not be the same person I am today if it weren’t for you and the standards you set. Hard work, determination and good moral character were instilled in me with help from you and my parents. I remember one time my mother was telling you that I played the whole game, both ways, hurt, and that I didn’t tell you I was hurt. I just played the game. Your response was “That’s what I would expect from Vito”. I thought, what a great answer. No sympathy, no surprise, no atta boy. Just matter of fact – He had a job to do and he did it. I guess the same is true in life, sometimes we have to play hurt.

For the hundreth time, Thanks !

You & your entire family are in our thoughts & prayers at this most difficult time in your life. It seems like we never have enough time with the people we love and cherish. By reading his guest book, he sounds like he was quite the man who was very loved & admired by all who knew him. We think of you often and miss you. Please take care of yourself & may you find strength and comfort in knowing your Dad is watching over you. Talk to him everyday (that's what has helped me cope with the loss of my Dad).

To the Mancuso family,

I gave Tony the nickname "Moose" during our days of football in Edgewood and Cranston. He reminded me of a runaway moose running wild and menacingly.But, underneath the uniform was the most noble and gentle person one would ever have the fortune to know.
Moose was a class act.

To all the Mancuso Family,

I first came to know him as Tony...this is what he preferred we call him as our coach in 1972. I think I can speak for the entire 1972 Championship Edgewood Eagle team, the first Senior Team ever, whom he led to a 12-0-0 undefeated season, that he was a coach we will never forget and will always remember. I then was fortunate enough to work for him, as he was my Colonel for the Providence Police. Whether it was Mr. Mancuso, Tony, Colonel or Coach, he was admired and loved by all he touched. We will never forget you Coach. You will live in our hearts forever. All I can say is what you always said to me in remembrance of that infamous championship game....middle screen, Gary...middle screen. The rest is history. You are and always will be a first class champion.

To the Mancuso family: Tony was a class act! We worked together at Cookson in the 1990's. As part of Internal Audit, my schedule would often intersect with his and we would always meet for dinner (along with Tony Moretti). These dinners became a tradition and we began meeting for dinner once a month when we were together in Providence. I always loved spending time with him. There was not a phony bone in Tony's body - he was the same great person to everyone he knew or met. I know you are all proud of the great, successful life he had! I will miss him alot.

Dear Elaine, Kenny and Family Mancuso: It was my privilege to have known Anthony for better than four decades. . .and to have witnessed his personal and professional ups and downs from a studious distance. One thing we need to remember about Colonel Mancuso is that he was mentored by Col. Walter E. Stone, a law enforcement icon well into his eighties. Borrowing some of Stoney's unwavering principles and sharing his contempt for a crooked cop, Anthony encountered lots of resistance, both from good guys and bad guys; but he never wavered, always standing tall, even when he fought a gallant fight against cancer. I last saw and spoke to Anthony at Elaine's and my 45th high school reunion. He was going through his own Hell physically, but still walking tall and talking straight. Along with a lot of people, I will miss him and count the many "Anthony moments" as invaluable experiences along the road of life. He was a trooper in more ways than one all of his life and his real legacy will forever remain his integrity, loyalty and leadership. Rest in peace, friend.

Coach Mancuso was my youth football coach, so most of my memories of him are from a very young age. What I remember most from those seasons was someone that taught with a purpose. He yelled much less than most of my coaches as I recall, and yet players listened more intently. I think even at that age we recognized that this was a person to pay attention to and to learn from while we had the chance. I'm glad I did.

Thanks Coach!

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace;
Where there is hatred, let me show love;
Where there is injury, pardon;
Where there is doubt, faith;
Where there is despair, hope;
Where there is darkness, light;
And where there is sadness, joy.
O Divine Master,
Grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console;
To be understood as to understand;
To be loved, as to love;
For it is in giving that we receive;
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
And it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.

By his public and community service and his dedication to his family, Tony has left a wonderful legacy of how a life should be lived to the fullest.

Dear Uncle Tony,
I cannot remember a time while I was growing up without remembering you always being there. From all the family gatherings on those special occasions or me just walking across the street to your house, you were always a big part of my life. I remember all the holidays and the summers everyone visited my mom and dad’s summer house, we all had so much fun.
I remember you teaching me how to drive a car, and more importantly, how you taught me so much more by being such a great role model to all of us, especially me. You were the living example of INTEGRITY, a rare individual who lived his life with the highest standards that could not be compromised.
I remember the recent years, when all of us kids were grown up with kids of our own, how you never changed, and were still such a great role model to all of us and how all of us love you so much, Uncle. I will miss you.
Thank you for the love and memories. I will cherish them always.
Your loving nephew,
Dick
