Robert Mathews Obituary

MATHEWS, ROBERT L. SR. 'GRAMPIE' 76, of Rockwood Ave. Cranston, passed away peacefully Monday September 8, 2008 at Our Lady of Fatima Hospital in North Providence. He was the beloved husband of Celia J. (Magnatta) Mathews.

Born in Cranston a son of the late Charles and Ellen (Malley) Mathews. Mr. Mathews was a retired Iron Worker with Local #37, Smiths Restaurant and the City of Cranston. He was a Past Cub Master for Pack# 10 St. Roccos Church in Johnston.

Besides his wife Celia he is survived by his loving sons, Joseph C. Mathews of Cranston, Robert L. Mathews, Jr. of MA, Michael K. Mathews of Foster, his cherished grandchildren, Callie-Marie, Mitchell, Jodi-Lynn, Justin, Michael and his brother Edward Mathews of SC.

Robert was also the brother of the late, Charles, Raymond, Louie, George, and William Mathews, Helen Vanasse, Margaret Conely and Anna Stubbs.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Friday at 9 am in St. Roccos Church Atwood Ave. Johnston. Visiting hours are respectfully omitted. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to: Home and Hospice Care of RI 169 George St. Pawtucket, RI 02860. Arrangements by the Nardolillo Funeral Home. I'm the grandson of Charlie Mathews, Bobby's oldest brother {the oldest child of Marcia (Mathews) D'Orsi}. I'll miss his smile and the gatherings downstairs in the elbow room at 1028 Cranston St. He was a great guy and a joy to be around. My sincere condolences to his family.
