Havis Grissom

GRISSOM, HAVIS, 89, of Johnston, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, October 5, 2008 at Fatima Hospital. He was the loving husband of Dorothy F. (Worden) Grissom.

Born in Judsonia, Arkansas, he was the son of the late Oscar and Alta (Busick) Grissom. He moved to Rhode Island in March of 1924. Mr. Grissom served in the US Navy during WWII. He holds the honor of being the first Eagle Scout in North Scituate. He was an active member of the North Scituate Advent Christian Church since 1935. As a tool and die maker, he worked for many years at the former Linden & Company. He retired from Speidel Textron in 1989 after almost 25 years. Mr. Grissom was also a 50-year member of the Hamilton Lodge F&AM which recently merged with the Manchester Lodge. He became a Master Mason on February 5th, 1955 and an Honorary Past Master in 1998. He was also a member of the Providence Chapter #1, The Providence Council #1, St. John's Commandry #1, and the Scottish Rite.

Besides his wife of 61 years, he is survived by his 3 children, Lorinda Silveira of Woonsocket, David Grissom of Reseda, CA, and John Grissom of Johnston; a sister Louise Rimmler and 2 brothers, Maurice and the late Oscar Grissom. He is also remembered by his 4 grandchildren, Collin, Devon, Sara, and Jaclyn.

His funeral will be held Thursday at 9 AM from the TUCKER-QUINN Funeral Chapel, 643 Putnam Ave. (Rte. 44), Greenville, followed by a service at 10 AM in the North Scituate Advent Christian Church, 212 Rockland Rd., N.
