Helen Shaw

SHAW, HELEN (NERNEY) 89, passed away October 15th at St. Elizabeths Manor, Bristol after a brief illness. She was born in Attleboro, MA, the daughter of the late George and Edith (Osgood) Nerney.

Helen was a graduate of Attleboro High School. She graduated from Wellesley College with a degree in Fine Arts and worked in the Education Department of the RISD Museum. She also attended Bryant College, Brown University, and Rhode Island College. She and her late husband R. Read Shaw lived in Barrington for 30 years before moving to Touisset Point, Warren in 1976. She was active in Girl Scouts and St. Johns Episcopal Church for many years and was a member of the Wellesley Club, the Touissett Point Community Club, and a former member of Barrington Yacht Club. She was the Welcome Wagon Hostess in Barrington from 1952 until 1962 when she became Art Supervisor and teacher in the Warren Public Schools. She retired in 1972. Helen is survived by her children Charlotte Shaw Tracy and her husband Charlie Tracy of Bristol, Richard Cappy C. Shaw and Peter H. Shaw and his wife Robin Church Shaw of Touisset Point. She also leaves 7 grandchildren Marla Tracy Pak, Justin Tracy, Gregory Tracy, Caitlin Shaw, Meredith Shaw, Pierson Shaw and Hayden Shaw, and 5 great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday October 21st at 1:00 PM in St. Johns Episcopal Church 191 County Rd., Barrington. Burial will be private.
