russell,
you were the sister I never had, my heart is breaking knowing that I will never share future memorys with you. I can still see you flying through the air doing a triple helicopter on our many ski trips with family, being the life of the party, nights on the town laughing & dancing all night, barging through my door bigger than life & scaring the daylights out of Adam & Natalie , telling my husband Al, "My brother Russell called". watch the kids! beating you at pool, texas hold em & left , right ctr on holidays. I will always miss your kind words, your wild fearless spirit , your fun loving nature & your wise cracking bear hugging ways. Kim, Rachell , aiden, liam & kaida will miss you deeply, Mom & your brothers Frank & David hearts are broken, Al, Adam & Natalie, your cousins chad, dale, mitch, mike, rocky, billy, "The Gamblers" all your work buddys from EB & the carpenters union along with your many, many friends... Russ, your friends & family waited in line for hrs at your wake stunned & shocked that we will never share another laugh with you... a true testament to how much you loved us all & were loved. I was proud to be your sister & you will always be in my heart.
give scottie & Brad one of your infamous bear hugs for me.
love, cathy

I just found out about Russell and I am still in disbelief. I was just thinking about him and how I ran into him and Mitch coming back from a boys weekend skiing a couple years ago and how excited they were to hit the slopes. Russell had a contagious laugh and smile. He'll be sadly missed.

Dad, My dad was my hero. He was the strongest man and best person i will ever know. He always knew how to bring a smile to my face when no other could. I remember him telling me at twelve years old, that love was more important than anything in this world. And as long as i had that i was a rich person. He was right, and i will never forget. He loved Aidan, Liam, Kaida, Kim and I more than anything in this world. I was very lucky to be there for more backflips, beach trips, batting cages, walks, bike rides, laughs, swims, games, rides, and dances. I will never forget one memory and look forward to more knowing he'll always be there. My dad had the biggest heart and would want us to remember all the good memories and keep a smile on our faces. Because he always did. I love you dad, Rachell

Dear Aunt Teash....
My thoughts go back to Russell as a very young child, a young man, and that wonderful man he grew into.
As a child, he had those eyes that didn't miss a thing, that mind that was ALWAYS going, and more energy than I could keep up with when I babysat him.
As a young man, he put all that energy into each thing he did, any sport he played, and especially into his wonderful family. His passion always came out when he would talk about his Mom, kids, and siblings. We all knew when he entered a room, just from his smile and laughter. Russell always had a hug for you, and always wanted to know what you had going on in life. It was never about him.
I had watched him go from this young man into the amazing adult he transformed into. A hard worker, a dad, everyones friend, but most of all.....a son that adored his Mom.
Unfortunately, you all all too familiar with this pain. I can only hope for you, that you can get some strength from knowing that Russell grew into the person he became because of you. You are always a constant in all the lives around you. You are one of the strongest women I know. Russell loved that about you the most.
My heart aches for you. My arms are open for you....always....you know that.

Aunt Teash, & Kim & Frankie & Cathy & David,
There is not much that I can put into words to heal your sorrow, but what I can tell you is how much fun and enjoyment I always got out of every contact with Russell. Going all the way back to all of the games we used to play in the backyards of our Aunts and Uncles homes on Railroad Ave., and how competetive he always was, but also how much fun it was to play with him on your team or against him, because you knew he was trying to not just beat you, but dominate you, even though he always wanted to be steady pitcher or steady QB.
The last time I saw Russell, was at Duffy's, when Teash invited my girls, Chelsy and Megan, and I for a night of Dancing. We had a blast with everybody there, but was so glad Russel walked in later in the night and ended up ribbing each other about growing up on Railroad Ave, with all of our Great Cousins, and all of the Great Memories of those times. He was a Great guy and he will be sorely missed, again I am so sorry for your loss.
LOVE YOU Russell, Say hi to Grammie and Gramps , and Aunt Midge and Uncle Donald , and especially give a big hug to Scottie and Brad for me, we will miss you...!!!

To the Glawson Family -
I met Russell one day this spring, when he and Dave were helping with the cleanup of a wildlife preserve in West Greenwich. Incredible worker. He was all business that day, and he just kept going, no matter how big the obstacle. Toward the end of the day, I pointed out a car door that had been dumped in an old well, rusting away. Russell jumped down and was like a wild man, pushing around the boulders that had pinned the door in there for years. I think anyone else would have given up, but I remember him saying that "this is nature, and this (the door) shouldn't be here. He got that car door out by sheer force of will, and I still think of him now, when I see the clear, clean water moving through. On behalf of The Nature Conservancy, I extend my sincere condolences to you all on your loss.

I can still see the army pants and army jacket... wholes in both with gray fur sticking out... feet and hands were covered with bony fingers and thick toes and more gray fur. His face was one of the scarier masks on the planet... and all it was was a gray wolf with a rino horn on his forehead... But it fit perfectly... Russ took me under his wing during those great NK Football Haunted Houses...he taught me to scare the *stuff* out of anyone and everyone. He was a big part of what made people come in droves and wait in those LONG lines. I've had a great fondness for October since Russ... whether male or female, Russ scared you like you had never been scared before. I can still see the girls running to their cars (Russ in pursuit) cause they couldn't go inside...if it was scary in the line, they would have passed out inside! He absolutely loved working under that mask. And I absolutely love watching him work Halloween.
Russ, you've been out of my life for many, many years... but never out of my mind. You will live on every Halloween.
My deepest and warmest condolences to the family.

I was totally shocked to learn of Russell's death. I was always surrounded by he, Frank and the Carter boys while growing up in North Kingstown...Russ was such a comedian...he ALWAYS made me laugh with his antics. I was once an NK Men's Softball Groupie, and Russ was on my former husband's team (Mark "Lefty" Shearer) many times. Those were good, good times, and I am glad to have known Russ! My condolences go out to Kim and her children, as well as Cindy and Rachel. Tish, please be strong. Russ played hard, loved hard, worked hard...Hopefully, he will rest in peace and watch over all of us.
Fondly,

Dear Family and Friends,
While I haven't been in Southern Rhode Island in quite some time, Russ will always be with me and those whose hearts he touched. I will never forget the youthful energy, the exuberance, and the love of life he put into everything he did.
Many nights we played basketball at Rose Hill Road, and I realized then how much life and passion he put into the everyday activities he enjoyed. He made me appreciate how precious life is to all of us. He was a superior athlete, friend, and teammate. I hope that all who knew him will remember how he made everyone around him a better person. My heartfelt condolences go out to friends and family. May you remember and celebrate his life all throughout yours.
