George Hagerty Obituary

HAGERTY, GEORGE A., JR., (PFD), 81, of Providence, passed away Tuesday, October 21, 2008 at the Philip Hulitar Hospice Center, Providence. He was the husband of the late Eileen (Grant) Hagerty.

Born in Providence, he was the son of the late George and Esther (Hughes) Hagerty. Mr. Hagerty was a lifelong resident of the city. He was a Providence Firefighter for 35 years, retiring in 1984. He was a navy veteran of World War II, a member of the VFW, McKenna McAllister Post, Providence, Providence Firefighters Association, Local 799, and a member of Saint Augustine Church Holy Name Society.

He is survived by a daughter, Eileen Battison of Providence, three grandchildren, Dawn Carroll, David and Amy Battiston, and three great grandchildren. He was the father of the late Lt. George Hagerty III, (PFD). He was the brother of the late Esther Mockler and Edward Hagerty.

The funeral will be held Friday, October 24, 2008 at 9am from the HOEY-ARPIN-WILLIAMS-KING Funeral Home, 168 Academy Ave., Providence, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10am in Saint Augustine Church, Mount Pleasant Ave., Providence. Burial will be in Saint Joseph Cemetery, West Greenwich. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting hours Thursday 6-8pm. www.rifuneral.com
