I’ll always cherish the memory of the La Salle maroon and white hockey stockings Uncle Don gave me during my pee wee hockey days, as La Salle was always the high school I wanted to go to and play hockey for and getting the stockings was like a real sign that I could do it. As we all know, he was a classy and understated guy who (along with Aunt Barbara) always seemed to be there holding down the fort—including sharing the home with Grampa on Sumter Street. I used to tell him he reminded me of the actor David Jansen with his Hollywood good looks and low-key, unassuming manner, and he’d get a kick out of that. Fittingly enough, his hockey number at La Salle was number 7, a prime number in itself and in the lore of the game, and he lived for 77 years. We have all been very fortunate to have known him for so many of those years, and we admire and appreciate his fighting the good fight with all his suffering to be with us that much longer.

Godspeed Uncle Don. Thank you and we will definitely miss you.

Love,
Jim
