Alfred Frechette Obituary

FRECHETTE, ALFRED LOUIS 'AL',77, beloved husband of the late Katharine B. Frechette, died Friday, November 7th at his Wickford home, surrounded by loved ones.

Al Frechette was born in 1930 in Burlington, VT, and was the only child of the late Dr. & Mrs. Alfred L. Frechette of Brookline, MA.

Admired as a man of great dignity, he was known for his dry wit, his love of music and the arts and his fondness for motor sports. He was a consistent source of strength and wisdom to many, both personally and professionally.

He is survived by his children, Christopher (Kip) Frechette, Andrew (Rob) Frechette, Sarah Frechette Garnsey, Mary Love Kenney, Michelle Lavoie and Daniel Igoe; grandchildren Ian and William Frechette, Caitlin Greene, Marc Lemieux, Jamie Hausauer, Katharine Lavoie and Kim Fuller; honorary granddaughter Erin Thibault; and great-grandchildren Austin and Gaige Fuller.

Mr. Frechettes early career teaching instrumental music in Newburyport, MA was followed by several years in banking that culminated in a senior vice presidency at a large New England commercial institution.

After an extended illness, he acquired masters-level certification in chemical dependency treatment and state recognition as a clinical supervisor, becoming a rehabilitation counselor and then director of clinical services at High Point of RI. He joined The Providence Center for Counseling and Psychiatric Services in 1989 as a counselor and then clinical director of the Quitting Time program retiring in 1994.

Mr. Frechette was a 30-year resident of North Kingstown, and served on the towns wellness task force. He held a bachelors degree in music education from Boston University, where he also pursued graduate work. He received a Masters in Human Services degree from New Hampshire College in 1988 and was a graduate of Westwood (MA) High School.

Visitation will be held at the Carpenter-Jenks Funeral Home, 659 East Greenwich Ave., West Warwick Friday November 14th from 6-8 p.m. A graveside service will be at the Quidnessett Memorial Cemetery, 6365 Post Road, North Kingstown, Saturday, November 15th at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, well-wishers are asked to donate to Home & Hospice Care of RI, South Team, 169 George Street, Pawtucket, RI 02860. Al was very important to my life in that he was instrumental at the very beginning of my new way of life. He let me know that I was a good person, and instilled hope when I had little. I will always remember him.
