I too have many happy memories of Auntie Rose and the Pati household. The family gatherings in the yard for confirmations or Easter... whatever the occasion, the place was filled with laughter, food and music... Accordian, guitars, and Auntie Rose on the harmonica. These are the images and memories I will always hold dear. Many years later and many years ago, I was very happy to bring my own family back to meet my Aunts. Fried dough with sugar in the kitchen.. you want another? Catherine, make some more. I remember, I always will.

I was quite saddened when I heard the news of Aunt Rose's passing. But out of that sadness came fond recollections of times spent at 31 Meadow Avenue as a kid. Whether it was a bus ride downtown to shop for a new coat, walking to Sadie's for an ice cream or something, or just hanging out at 31 Meadow Av during the summer schoool break, Aunt Rose always seemed to be able to keep things upbeat and fun. While she may have passed on, fond memories of her will remain with me.

Mom,
What can I say to you, to make you feel better? I know how much you adored auntie Rosie, and how sad you were, you couldn't see more of her. Just be happy that she's in heaven with all her sisters and brothers rather than here, all alone. Please try to remember all the hundreds of good times, and don't cry. I'm here for you, and I'm so sorry, mom, you lost your aunt. I love you,
Your son, Grant

Dear Eddie and Barbara,
I am very sorry to hear about Auntie Rosie dying. I loved her a lot, and I will miss going to visit her when mom and I go to Rhode Island. She was always nice to me. Now, I guess she's with my Nana, which is where she wanted to be.
Again, I'm sorry.

Eddie, my oldest and dearest cousin; as I am slumped here in front of my computer, tears staining my face, I find myself having to say goodbye to the last of the 'good ole gals' that saw us through life. Your mom, my mom, and of course Auntie Rosie, were the staples we could always count on. From the time I was old enough to understand anything at all, I understood how very fortunate we all were, all us cousins, to have the benefit of the warmth, generosity, and love bestowed on us with consistency, from these wonderful women. Auntie Rosie, with her one lung, and sickly life, outlasted them all. How lucky we were Eddie, that Auntie Rosie was such a demonstrative part of our youth. Having no husband or children, she was always available to give us her all; and she always did. She was so funny, and so kind both to me, and to you. She bought me my first pair of jeans, took me on vacations, and was always available to toss a ball around with me when I was young. When you had to leave for Korea, it was Auntie Rosie who comforted me, because my little heart was breaking because my hero was leaving, and she understood that. I'm sure you have reflected on all the sacrifices she made for you as well, and remember all the good times in our lives that Auntie Rosie was responsible for. She was quite the entertainer, always with the best of everything. Her pistachio cake was to die for, and I know I'll never forget all the wonderful trips we took together into the city, both of us donned with hats and white gloves. Oh, Eddie, I will miss her, I miss them all. Thank you for taking such good care of her in my absence, I am eternally grateful. Life does not permit me to be there with you for these sorrowful days, but I know you are strong, and will be the rock you always are. I'm sorry for your loss, for my own loss, and for all those who knew her, who will be losing one heck of a woman. With genuine sympathy and love,
your cousin Melanie.
