Dear friends of Chris, I first met Chris when I managed Celler Stories Bookstore in downtown Providence, nearly 20 years ago. At that time he was living at the YMCA, reluctant to move because he loved Providence so much, having grown up on the East Side, living on Condon Street for most of his years. He would come into the store on his usual walking route to say hello. As we got to know each other, I realized he needed a safer place to live, so I told him about Harbourview Senior Housing in East Providence. It sounded like a place he would enjoy and it was on the bus route, so he could still travel to Providence to visit his old haunts. With a little help from us, he moved in. It just so happens that my husband Jim is a maintainence man there and he kept an eye on him as much as he could. Jim got to know him more and more over the years. He quotes him all the time, imitating his unique voice. Chris was known as "The Professor" at Harbourview. Chris will be forever remembered by us. I see the burial will be private but we would like to attend if possible. Both my parents are interred near the Columbarium, at the Veterans Cemetery, so we are there fairly often. Please contact us if you can.
