Elizabeth McDermott Obituary

McDERMOTT, ELIZABETH A. 'BETTY', 84, of Gentian Avenue, died Thursday at the Philip Hulitar Hospice Center, Providence. She was the wife of John F. 'Fran' McDermott, (Lieutenant Providence Fire Department, Retired). A wonderful wife and mother, Betty and Fran had been married for sixty-two years.

Born in Providence, a daughter of the late Carlton A. and Lillian (Lipinski) Lovett, she had lived in Providence most of her life.

Mrs. McDermott was an administrator in the Housing Office at Brown University for many years before retiring in 1987. She had also worked as a supervisor of telephone operators for the New England Telephone Company for several years. She was a communicant of Saint Augustine Church.

Besides her husband, she leaves two sons; John R. McDermott of Saunderstown, James H. McDermott (Lieutenant Providence Fire Department, Retired) of Wakefield, a sister, Jean Henderson of East Providence, and three grandchildren, Amanda, James and Ryan McDermott.

The funeral will be held Monday, at 9 a.m., from the Russell J. Boyle & Son Funeral Home, 331 Smith Street, Providence. Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Saint Augustine Church, Mount Pleasant Avenue, Providence. Burial will be in Swan Point Cemetery, Providence. Visiting hours Sunday, 4-7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to Home & Hospice Care of Rhode Island, 169 George Street, Pawtucket, RI 02860 in her memory will be appreciated. www.boyleandsonfuneralhome.com
