Merritt had worked as a papermaker his entire life and was the owner and operator of Sorenson Paperboard of Palmyra. He was a devoted husband, father, and friend who enjoyed farming, hunting, and fishing.
Merritt is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Judith Elaine Sorenson of Elberta; three children, George (Sandy) Sorenson of Wyoming, Cathy (Ron) Alvesteffer of Hart, and Cindy (Richard) Follen of Kingsley; and two sisters, Henrietta McPhearson of Benzonia and Violet Smith of Warrenton, Mo. Merritt was the proud grandfather of Ashley, Amanda, Richie, Grace, George, Rosie; and the proud great-grandfather of Leigha.
Visitation will be held from 4:30 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2008, at the Bennett-Barz Funeral Home in Beulah.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2008, at the Frankfort United Methodist Church in Frankfort, with Rev. Greg Culver officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to Munson Hospice.
