Barbara was born in Highland Park to Beverly (Josephine) Cary. She graduated from Shatford High School, a private boarding school in Virginia, and then went on to receive her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Alabama. She also received her teaching certificate and worked her career as a teacher for many years.
Barb loved the Tigers and Red Wings and was an avid quilter, amongst many other sewing talents.
She was the cherished wife of William "Bill", sharing over 54 years together; loving mother of Bill (Linda White) Coburn, Douglas (Margaret) Coburn and Jim (Judy) Coburn; proud grandmother of Anne, Chelsea, Clare, Christopher and Colin; dear sister of Alan (Nancy) Cary and the late Charles Cary.
Family will receive friends Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2008, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Covell Funeral Home in Elk Rapids.
Memorial Services with Holy Communion will be held at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2008, at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Elk Rapids (403 Traverse), with Rev. Dr. Kathleen Kircher officiating. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
