Carolyn Mims Coburn, 87, of Roanoke Rapids, left this earthly life for an eternal one on Friday, November 7, 2025. Carolyn was born on October 17, 1938 in Waycross, Georgia. She was the daughter of Chester and Susie Martin Mims.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her husband, Franklin Delano Coburn; parents, Chester and Susie Mims; five brothers, Elmo, Bobby, Larry, Sherill, and Emmett; and two sisters, Judy and Betty. Left to cherish her memories are her daughters, Frances Vick and husband, Dean of Roanoke Rapids, NC and Sue Lewis and husband, Stan of Elgin, SC. Carolyn was lovingly known as Grandma by Jeremy Lewis and wife, Jennifer; Trey Vick and wife Megan; and Heather Cooke and husband Corey. Carolyn was known as great grandma (G-ma) and Grandma by Selita Lewis, Hadley Cooke, Hunter Vick, Cullen Cooke, Kaine Lewis, and Reid Vick.
Carolyn was a homemaker and enjoyed shopping, coloring, and worshiping the Lord with as many as six daily devotion books a day. Carolyn enjoyed participating in activities, giving hugs, and joking with the staff from Liberty Commons who became an extended family. Staff and visitors would stop by to see her coloring. Carolyn had a natural talent for bringing life to her art and joy to each person she touched. She looked forward to reuniting with the Lord and her family in heaven.
The family extends special gratitude to the staff at Liberty Commons for providing care and support to Carolyn during her residency.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, November 11, 2025 at Cedarwood Cemetery in Weldon, NC with Reverend Randy Martin officiating.
"Blessed is she who believed, for there will be a fulfillment of those things which were told her from the Lord." (Luke 1:45 NKJV)
