Jean Gaither Wells

Jean Gaither Wells, 83, of Roanoke Rapids, passed away on Monday, October 27, 2025.
She was a native of Halifax County, NC and was the daughter of the late George Russell Gaither and Margaret Alma Aycock Gaither. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Levelle Wells, a daughter, Elizabeth "Libby" Jean Wells, a granddaughter, Christina Marie Wells, a brother, William "Bill" Gaither and his wife, Elsie.
Jean was a graduate of Aurelian Springs High School and also received an associate's degree from Hardbarger Business College. She retired as the long-time manager of Pic N Pay Shoes in Roanoke Rapids and was a lifelong member of Bear Swamp Baptist Church in Littleton where she enjoyed church activities and fellowship with church members. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She is survived by her daughters, Sharon Wells and Deborah Morgan and her husband, Osbond L. "Ozzie" Morgan, Jr. of Roanoke Rapids; grandchildren, Leslie Newsome and husband, Jonathan, Michael Morgan and wife, Ashley, Tommy O'Neal and Rebecca all of Roanoke Rapids and Johnathan O'Neal and wife, Janet of Florida; great grandchildren, Kenley Carter, Kayla Carter, Kolton Newsome, Lincoln O'Neal and Calum Morgan, all of Roanoke Rapids and Elizabeth O'Neal of Florida; her brother, David Gaither of Roanoke Rapids, her sister, Ellen Draper and husband, Julian of Newport News, VA.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, November 1, 2025 at Bear Swamp Baptist Church in Littleton with Rev. Charles Wilson officiating.
Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends after the service.
Arrangements are being handled by Askew Funeral and Cremation Services in Roanoke Rapids.
