Vern was born in Pigeon on March 27, 1915, the son of Henry "Ed" and Mabel (Beck) Wing. He married Lena Stirrett on April 18, 1938, in Silver Lake, Ind. Vern lived in the Pigeon/Bay City area for about 30 years, and then he and Lena made their home here for over 60 years.
A cherry farmer, Vern also loved raising Black Angus cattle. He retired from Cone Drive where he had been employed for many years. He enjoyed traveling out West and to Florida, and he and Lena and their family enjoyed boating as well. Vern and Lena attended Bayview Wesleyan Church and for a number of years have attended Bible Baptist Church.
Vern will be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather and as a man who loved the Lord.
Vern is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Lena; his children, Donna (Gary) Flees of Traverse City, Gary (Helen) Wing of Buffalo, Mo., and Roger (Cheryl) Wing of Pahrump, Nev.; two grandchildren Aaron (Alicia) Flees of Traverse City and Matthew (Karri) McDaniel of Williamsburg.
Vern was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Oscar and Earl; and his daughters, Lois McDaniel and Sharon Kay Wing.
Visitation will take place from 6 until 8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 17, at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 18, also at the funeral home, with Pastors Lou Damiani and Steve Dodd officiating. Burial will be in Acme Township Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the American Cancer Society.
