Irene was born in Gary, Ind., on June 28, 1914, to Louis and Sofia Furrier (Hungarian-Szucs). As a youngster, she was a member of a Hungarian singing and dancing society. She graduated as valedictorian from John Marshall High School in Cleveland, Ohio.
After graduation, Irene worked as a pastry chef for the school system. Her family moved to the Detroit area, where she later met Ed Lundy, a minor league hockey player from the Upper Peninsula town of Ripley. After their marriage in 1936, they lived in River Rouge, where Ed worked in the steel mill and Irene took in boarders. Their desire to move out of the city led them to Eastport in 1946.
They purchased the tavern/restaurant on the corner of U.S. 31 and M-88. Ed and Irene sold the popular business after four years. They entered the real estate field with State-Wide; Irene became a broker and Ed a salesman for the next 26 years, until their son, Phil, took over the business.
They enjoyed the area and their multitude of friends. They were very involved in community activities; Ed was the first Eastport fire chief and Irene started the Women's Club at the Eastport Fire Hall and was "Queen of Coleslaw" for the Fireman's Field Day. She was especially proud of tending her fabulous flower garden in her backyard overlooking Torch Lake. Many people have been recipients of her beautiful bouquets. Irene made great apple pies. She enjoyed ice fishing for whitefish on Torch until she and Ed started spending their winters traveling to Hobe Sound, Fla.
Ed later became too ill to travel, and Irene cared for him until his death five years later. She was a loving mother and grandmother, supportive to all, and enjoyed all family activities.
Irene was preceded in death by her husband, Ed, in 1995; her son, Phil, in 2007; two sisters, Helen Faith and Rose Vigna; and one brother, Paul Furrier.
She is survived by a brother, Bill Furrier, of Spring Hill, Fla.
Irene's life will be cherished by her daughter, Nancy (Bob) Klinske, Rockford; daughter-in-law, Char Lundy of Torch Lake Village; grandchildren, Patty (Bobby) Boyd of The Villages, Fla., Erik Lundy and friend Maxine of Bad Axe, Julia (John) Thomas of Greenville, Heidi (Dean) Olesko of Lowell, Todd (Angela) Klinske of Belmont, and Wendi (Travis) Disbrow of Traverse City; 13 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Visitation with the family will be at 10 a.m. until noon Saturday, Oct. 4, 2008, at the Central Lake Congregational Church, 8066 W. Old State Rd. Church services will immediately follow. Interment will be at Lakeview Cemetery on East Torch Lake Drive, a half mile south of M-88. A luncheon will follow at the Blue Pelican Room on Torch Lake Dr.
Memorials may be directed to the building fund/parish nurse program at the church.

My thoughts and prayers go out to your family. God's Grace, Reassurance, and Smile are seen everyday in the views of Torch Lake. This Grace, Reassurance, and Smile was reflected through Grandma Lundy's eyes, voice, and her life. Her life was made whole and complete through the love she was shown by her family, friends, and a place she loved so much, " Torch Lake". May your family continue to reflect that Grace, Reassurance, Smile, Love, and the Spirit of all those "Torch Lake Lovers" that captivates us in every view of that Beautiful Blue Heaven!
