Betty was a longtime member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Grand Rapids.
She loved the family cottage on Spider Lake in Traverse City. She was an avid golfer and a 30-year member of Silver Lake Country Club.
Surviving are her husband of 54 years, Rolland Varner of Grand Rapids; her daughter, Christine (Peter Romeo) Varner of Traverse City; one brother, Richard (Doris) Troll of Grand Rapids; her sister-in-law, Donna Troll of Maryland; niece, Carlee Koessel; and her nephews, Peter and Ric Troll.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Otto and Dagmar Troll; her father and mother-in-law, Jesse and Elsie Varner; and her brother, William Troll.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m., at Trinity Lutheran Church, 2700 East Fulton, Grand Rapids, with her Pastor Paul Krupinski officiating. Burial will be in Rosedale Memorial Park. Betty's family will receive friends on Friday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m., at Metcalf and Jonkhoff Funeral Home, and also on Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m. at church.
Those thinking of a memorial in Betty's name might consider the American Cancer Society.
