Robert Garry Obituary
He was born Nov. 6, 1942, in New Britain, a son of the late Marjorie (Fish) Garry and Robert W. Garry. In addition to his wife he leaves two daughters, Alexandra and Jacqueline Emma, both of Southington; three sons, Robert Garry and wife, Jill, of Bristol, Michael Garry and wife, Angela, of Southington, and John Garry, of California; a sister, Laurel Tomassetti and husband, Fred, of Southington; three brothers, Randall Garry and wife, Sheila, of Eastham, Mass., David Garry and fiancée, Meg Carmichael, of Plainville, and James Garry and wife, Terry, of Sherman, Texas; four grandchildren, Aidan, Morgan, Matthew, and Tyler; his mother-in-law, Alice Turner, of Southington; and many cherished relatives and friends too numerous to list. He was predeceased by his brother, Thomas Garry.
Bob touched the lives of many young people throughout his 34 year teaching career. He began teaching in 1966 at Kennedy Junior High School, where he taught math for 17 years. He then taught math at Southington High School for 18 years, while also being class advisor and boys' tennis coach, retiring in 2001. During retirement he combined his love for tennis with his love for his daughters and coached the girl's high school tennis team for six years. Following his retirement, Bob turned his love of masonry into a second career and founded G&T Masonry. His many masonry skills were inspired by his loving Uncle Allie. Bob will always be remembered for living his motto, "It's nice to be nice."
Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 8, at 9:15 a.m. from DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St., Southington to Mary Our Queen Church, 248 Savage St., Plantsville for a Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Calling hours will be on Sunday from 2 to 6 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Mr. Garry Scholarship Fund, c/o TD Banknorth, 900 Queen St., Southington, 06489, attn: Amanda Callahan. Mr. Garry was one of those special teachers who made you believe in yourself and who worked hard to help you succeed. There are many teachers I've had over the years who inspired me to become a teacher but he is definitely at the top of the list. Mr. Garry...you will be missed. I am so saddened to hear of the sudden passing of Mr. Garry. He was my 9th grade Geometry teacher at JFK Junior High 30 years ago. He was such a nice gentle man and made learning fun. What a wonderful, caring teacher he was.

I was saddened to hear of Mr. Garry's passing. He was my 9th grade math teacher at JFK. I remember how he made math class fun. I wanted to learn, he took the time to help someone if they needed it.

I am so sorry for your loss. I worked at Simone Travel where the Garry's would book their vacations and whenever he came in he was always in a cheerful mood. Infact, if you asked him how he was he always said he was "NICE". That was Bob.
I am living in RI now and when I heard of his passing I was shocked as I'm sure many are.

My condolences on the loss of your loved one. I had Mr Garry as my teacher in 1966 and have fond memories of the handsome new math teacher with the sports car. I remember him as full of energy in front of the class. He was a terrific teacher.
