Willie Welch Obituary

Willie Edna Welch, 88, of Bedford, died Tuesday, August 12, 2008. She was born in Bedford County on July 20, 1920, a daughter of the late John Whitfield Welch and Ida Reece Welch. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers and sister, John W. Welch Jr., Jessie B. Welch, Bessie A. Reichardt, Thomas D. Welch, Robert W. Welch, Reece E. Welch, Ray C. Welch and Charles Ralph Welch. She was a lifelong member of Suck Spring Baptist Church and was very active in teaching children in Sunbeams and Missions. She retired from Sam Moore Furniture with over 21 years service. Willie is survived by her brothers and sisters, Mozelle W. Crenshaw, of Clarksville, Va., Al K. Welch (Delsie), of Bravard, N.C., Roy J. Welch (Catherine), of Crossville, Tenn., Jane G. Bales, of Virginia Beach, and James P. Welch Sr. (Louise), of Bedford; and a host of nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Suck Spring Baptist Church for Missions. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, August 15, 2008, at Suck Spring Baptist Church with the Rev. Michael Cox and the Rev. Jerry Parr officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, August 14, 2008, at Burch-Messier Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 317 W. Main Street, Bedford, (easy access off of Washington St.) 540-586-7360.
