Winifred Swindell Jackson

Winifred Swindell Jackson passed away August 13, 2008 in her sleep after a relatively short but difficult bout with cancer. Because she loved everyday life so much, in the end, it was hard for her to make peace with leaving but she did so with great courage. When she finally let go, her spirit soared above the Blue Ridge Mountains, over her beloved hometown of Baltimore, and into the great Light. Her greatest joys were her family, digging around in her yard, reading, movies, thinking, and all of her incredible friends. She had a wonderful marriage to Hugh Jackson, who passed away in 1985. She dearly loved her siblings, Rosemary, Barbara, Pete, Gordie, and in-laws, O.D. and Roz, all of whom have passed on. Winifred will greatly miss, and be tremendously missed by her daughter, Andrea and her husband, Rob Sawyer; her son, Cameron and his partner, Beth; her granddaughter, Tracy Padgett and husband, Rodney; one great-grandchild, Avery Padgett; her sister-in-law, Janet Dennis; and her brother-in-law, Rusty Jackson and wife, Anke. She also left loving family members in Richmond (the Dennis and Van Ness families); in Baltimore, the Marlowe family; in Boston, the Nolin family, as well as a colorful cast of great friends in New York City and Roanoke, particularly her caring Belle Meade neighbors in Roanoke County. She will be with her loved ones always. A memorial gathering will be held at Winifred's home at 4916 Sunnyside Drive, Saturday, August 23, 2008 from 2 to 4 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please send donations in her name to Boys' Home Inc., 306 Boys Home Road, Covington, VA 24426.
