Sherry Penick Obituary
Sherry Gail Penick, 55, of 2429 Cimarron Drive, Marion, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, August 12, 2008, in her home following a short courageous battle with cancer. Memorial services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, August 16, 2008, at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, August 15, 2008, at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home, Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Survivors include her husband of over 31 years, John; daughter, Keri Anne Penick, of Coralville; brothers, Larry Heatwole and wife, Elaine, of Harrisonburg, Va., Robert Heatwole, of Santa Fe, N.M., and Tim Heatwole and Todd Heatwole, both of Maryland; her sister, Donna Cash and husband, Michael, of Northern Virginia; a special aunt, Beverly Weatherly, of Richmond, Va.; as well as several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and numerous friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; and her son, Matthew Donald Penick. Sherry Gail Penick was born on July 28, 1953, in Harrisonburg, Va., the beloved daughter of Donald and Virginia Mae (Branner) Heatwole. She was a graduate of Turner Ashby High School, and later attended Bridgewater College in Dayton, Va. She was united in marriage to John Penick on May 7, 1977, in Harrisonburg, Va. She was a volunteer for the American Cancer Society and worked at the Discovery Shop. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, cooking wonderful meals, being a great mother, and time spent with family and friends. She will forever be remembered as being patient, loving, friendly, outgoing and unselfish. She showed great strength throughout her illness. She was a woman who always could find the good in others. She will be greatly missed, but forever remembered in the hearts of her family and friends. Sherry's request was that all memorial donations in her name be directed to Habitat for Humanity, 500 3rd St., S.E., Cedar Rapids, Iowa 52401.
