It was a true pleasure to meet Mr. Hanes and his wonderful family as we at Salem Health and Rehab cared for Mr. Hanes. He was a true favorite among the entire staff. His family as well were always a pleasure to speak with and we enjoyed our time with him very much. God Bless you all. Thoughts and prayers, Melinda Hunter RN

Mrs. Hanes: My sons Eric and Jeramy and I extend our sympathy at your loss. I enjoyed working with Mr. Hanes on the James River Scenic Advisory Board and enjoyed his visits to the office while I was Judge Honts' secretary before I moved to Colorado. Again, we are sorry for your loss.

We would all do well to remember what Mr. Hanes said about politics, "I was not born a Republican," he said later. "I felt that politics, like everything else, needs a little competition."
Like Whitney said, "bigger than life."
