Edison Hurst Obituary

Edison Lee Hurst, 84, of Salem, Va., passed away Friday, August 15, 2008. He was born March 30, 1924, in Pulaski County, Va., son of the late Walter Lee and Pearl Morris Hurst. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Sherman Hurst; and a sister, Flora Lilly. Mr. Hurst was retired from General Electric with 33 years of service, was a United States Army World War II Veteran and a member of Fort Lewis Christian Church. He is survived by his loving wife, Jane S. Hurst; two daughters and son-in-law, Janice Huffman, of Blacksburg, and Amy and Dennis Syrja, of Tampa, Fla.; two sisters, Daphna Haney, of Catawba, and Doris Young, of Waynesboro; and two grandsons, Jamie Huffman, of Austin, Texas, and Cameron Syrja, of Tampa, Fla. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Monday, August 18, 2008, at the chapel of John M. Oakey and Son, Salem with the Rev. Terry Elkins and the Rev. Bill Murdock officiating. Interment will follow at Highland Memory Gardens, Dublin. The family will receive friends on Sunday, August 17, 2008, from 3 to 5 p.m. at the funeral home. Flowers are appreciated however memorial donations may be made in Mr. Hurst's name to Fort Lewis Christian Church, 2931 W. Main St., Salem, Va. 24153.
