John Merix Obituary

John Edward Merix, 73, of Ripplemead, departed this life Wednesday morning, August 20, 2008, at Roanoke Memorial Hospital in Roanoke, Va., after a long illness. Born at Klotz in Giles County on October 21, 1934, he was a son of the late George Washington Merix and Sally Agnes McGuire Merix. He was retired as a heavy equipment operator for the Town of Pearisburg. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Joey and Todd Merix; a grandson, Chris Merix; and a daughter-in-law, Teresa Moore Merix. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 53 years, Martha Meadows Merix; a son and daughterin-law, Greg A. and Teresa Merix, of Ripplemead; two daughters and sons-in-law, Tina and Mitch Saunders, of Staffordsville, and Missy and Randy Perdue, of Ripplemead; a brother and sister-in-law, Freddy and Lisa Merix, of Ripplemead; a sister and brother-in-law, Joan and Larry Burnett, of Narrows; and nine grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday, August 23, 2008, in the Kendall Funeral Home at 605 Snidow St. in Pembroke with burial following in the Fillinger Cemetery near Pembroke. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday evening, August 22, 2008, from 6 to 8 p.m. Online condolences may be sent to the family by visiting kendallfuneralhome.com.
