Arthur McEnheimer Obituary

Arthur McEnheimer, 80 of Roanoke, and formerly of Christiansburg, Va., departed this earthly life on Saturday, August 23, 2008, at the Salem Health and Rehabilitation Center. Born on February 4, 1928, in Franklin County, Va., he was the eleventh child of the late Prince Albert and Hannah Berger McEnheimer. He was preceded in death by his wife, Rebecca W. McEnheimer; five brothers, Roy, Percy, Massie, Richard and Ab McEnheimer; and five sisters, Callie McEnheimer, Nellie Board, Evelyn Hampton, Cora Gibson and Nannie Lou McEnheimer. Arthur enjoyed hunting and fishing and taking trips to the Smokey Mountains. He was also known for his meticulous yard work and enjoyed taking care of many lawns around Christiansburg for many years. Being one of the first Blacks to be employed by the Virginia ABC Board, he retired after 33 years of dedicated service. His surviving family includes three sons, Arthur (Bertha) McEnheimer, of Rocky Mount, Va., Alvin (Clarice) McEnheimer, of Forest, Va., and George (Loretta) McEnheimer, of Roanoke, Va.; one daughter and devoted caregiver, Saron McEnheimer-Young, of Roanoke, Va.; four grandchildren, Tyron (Tina) McEnheimer, and Eric McEnheimer, of Roanoke, Va., Samaria Manns, of Roanoke, Va., and Anthony (Sharron) Lewis, of Norfolk, Va.; four great-grandchildren, Tyra and Tyrel McEnheimer, of Roanoke, Va., and KeShawn and Jordan Lewis, of Norfolk, Va.; two sisters, Susie (Robert) Young, of Rocky Mount, Va., and Fannie Mae Watkins, of Axton, Va.; one brother, Johnny McEnheimer, of Washington, D.C.; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services will be held 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, August 27, 2008, at Truevine Baptist Church in Rocky Mount, Va. Rev. Taylor Tolliver will officiate and interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one half hour before the service at the church. Friends may call at Serenity on Tuesday, August 26, 2008, from 2 to 8 p.m. for viewing. Arrangements by Serenity Funeral Home, 540-345-9100.
