Marion Jean Perkins Sheckler

Marion Jean Perkins Sheckler, 76, of Radford, went to her heavenly reward on Friday, August 22, 2008. She was a member of Radford Wesleyan Church and was a retired secretary at the First Christian Church. She served God in many ways, including as a concert and church vocal soloist, minister of music, church pianist, Sunday School teacher, leader of a ministry for children, and hospice volunteer. She was born September 20, 1931 in Detroit, Mich., the daughter of the late Robert B. and Marion Osborne Perkins. Survivors include her husband, Lewis Raymond Sheckler, of Radford; three sons and daughters-in-law, David Roy Sheckler of Radford, Stephen William and Beverly Sheckler, of Morton, Pa., and Lt. Col. John Mark (ret.) and Annette Sheckler, of Chesterfield, Va.: a brother, Walter Perkins, of Onaway, Mich.; and three grandchildren. A memorial service will be held Monday, August 25, 2008 at 7 p.m. at the Radford Wesleyan Church with the Rev. Barry Van Steenburg officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:30 p.m. until the time of the service on Monday at the church.
