Carrie Gaynelle Parker Overstreet

Carrie Gaynelle Parker Overstreet, 84, of Blue Ridge, died Thursday, August 28, 2008, in Bedford Memorial Hospital. She was born August 18, 1924, in Bedford County, a daughter of the late William Aubrey Parker and Lala Hopkins Carter Parker. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Burks Overstreet; her brother, Paul Parker; and her sister, Katherine Parker. Gaynelle was a devoted mother and grandmother and enjoyed watching her grandchildren excel in sports. She was a lifetime member of Cool Spring Presbyterian Church where she served for many years as Clerk of the Session, Head Elder, Sunday School Teacher and lead singer for the choir. She was a retired employee of Rubatex Corporation with 20 years of service. She is survived by a son, Gary C. Overstreet and his wife, Charlene, of Blue Ridge; a daughter, Shirley O. Morgan and her husband, P.W., of Huddleston; four grandchildren, Aaron and Noah Overstreet and Eric Morgan and Kimberly Nowocin and her husband, Josh; three brothers, Harold Parker, Dan Parker and James Parker, all of Thaxton; and three sisters, Ida Orange, of Thaxton, Marie Lewis, of Panama City, Fla., and Pearl Orange, of Bridgeton, N.J. A celebration of Gaynelle's life will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday, August 30, 2008, in the Tharp Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Geoff Hubbard officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery.
