Sherwood Brown Obituary

Sherwood Miller Brown, 94, of Portsmouth, passed away on Friday, August 29, 2008. He was a native of Portsmouth, a member of Centenary United Methodist Church, and a member of Tidal Wave Masonic Lodge #273 for over 60 years. He retired as a General Foreman at Norfolk Naval Shipyard and was an Army Veteran of World War II. Sherwood was predeceased by his beloved wife, Virginia Scott Brown. He is survived by a nephew, Robert P. Kegley and his wife, Jessie, of Bland, Va.; five great-nieces; two greatnephews; special friends, Mildred Bazemore, Gayle and Kenneth Dietrick; and numerous other relatives. A graveside funeral service will be held at 9 a.m. Monday in Olive Branch Cemetery by the Rev. Gary Alvis with Masonic Rites. Friends may visit at Loving Funeral Home Sunday from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Mr. Brown requested memorial contributions be made to his church, Centenary United Methodist Church, 3312 Cedar Lane, Portsmouth, Va. 23703.
