Kelley,

I am so sorry and shocked to hear about your father. I know you are a close knit family and you are hurting. He was a great guy and everyone thought a lot of him. Please forgive me for not being there at the funeral home. Unfortunately I did not hear about it in time. I am out of the Food Lion loop. But please know my prayers are with you and your family.

Shirley, I am so sorry to hear about Corky. My memories go way back to when he was a patient at the dental office, and you were the first person I met when I moved to Vinton. Michael & I were reflecting last night about when he used to come visit Kelly & bring his guitar. Corky would always want to play it! Terry was one of Ron Ernest's (my son-in-law) favorite students.
Please call if you need anything. I'm close by. Polina Bowers

Dear Shirley and all my first cousins, I am so sad to hear about Corky. We never got to visit much after we were grown, but I have many fond memories of the visits to Aunt Della's and Uncle Pet's house when we were children. Daddy and Mama (Arthur and Ava Owen) loved to go there. I know that the Lord will hold us all in his loving arms and give us comfort as we go through this troubling time. I travel in a wheel chair now and have a hard time getting to all the places I want to go. You will be in my prayers on Monday during the service. I love you all.

My Dearest Terri and Family,

Working with you at Southeast Family Medical Center I was blessed to know not only you but your family. Your dad and I chatted frequently as I would go through the meat department at Food Lion, I always would look for him when I went there so I could see his smile and chat a while. I am going to miss him terribly. Its so hard to lose a loved one, your dad was not only a loving father but a best friend. He was a wonderful man and a true legend. Please let your mom and Kelly know how much my thoughts are with you all. Im sorry I cant make it to the funeral, but, my heart will be there and I am thinking about you. I love you...

My deepest sympathy for you and your family. Corky was a very outstanding person. I've known him for a long time working at Food Lion, me as a customer, later as a coworker, working side by side we had a lot in common. We tease each other to who was the best meat cutter, he certainly was the best, he was top of the line.
Always a dear Friend,

I'm so sorry to hear about Corky. I was just thinking the other day about you all, and all the good memories I have as it all started in july 1981 as i've moved to Roanoke to start to college and had a job at Mick-or-Mack. The 1st day there i met two of the nicest people. I was really home sick. And this older lady names Shirley made me feel so much better and then she introduce me to her daughter Terri and from that day forward the warmest friendship developed with the whole Chewning family. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.
