Lewis Sigmon Obituary

Lewis Eldridge Sigmon, 99, of Callaway, joined his loving wife of 74 years, Wilma Gladys Sigmon, in their eternal home on Sunday, September 7, 2008. He was a wonderful father, grandfather and neighbor. He loved to have company visit and always had a story to tell about the "old" days. He enjoyed the old time music and would often play a tune for his family. Every fall you could find him cracking walnuts until his health failed. He was a lifetime and the oldest member of St. Peters Episcopal Church of Callaway. He was born August 16, 1909, a son of the late Norman and Eliza Webb Sigmon. He was preceded in death by two sons, Walter and Perry Sigmon; 10 brothers; and four sisters. Left to cherish his memory are sons and daughters-in-law, Bobby and Emmaline Sigmon, Larry and Linda Sigmon, Elizabeth Sigmon and Irene Sigmon; grandchildren, Darlene Hunt, Charles Sigmon, Rodney Sigmon, Donna Hodges, Mike Sigmon, Reggie Sigmon, Regena Sigmon, Kathy Forbes, Tony Sigmon, Mark Sigmon and Debbie Young; stepgrandchild, Libby Wimmer; 30 greatgrandchildren; seven greatgreat-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; special friends, John (Bigun) and Hazel Pendleton; caregivers, Emma Woods, Sylvia Underwood; Carilion Hospice; and Dr. George Chaconas. The family would like to give special thanks and appreciation to Emma and Sylvia who were his companions and caregivers. Their dedication and love for "papa" enabled him to stay home and be with his family. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Tuesday, September 9, 2008, from Flora Funeral Chapel with the Rev. John Heck and Dr. William Shively officiating. Interment will follow in the Guilliams Family Cemetery. Flowers will be appreciated or memorials can be made to Carilion Hospice of Franklin County, 390 South Main St., Rocky Mount, Va. 24151 or to St. Peters Endowment Fund, 65 Rock Ridge Road, Callaway, Va. 24067. Friends may call after 3 p.m. on Monday with his family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m. at Flora Funeral Service, 665 South Main Street, Rocky Mount, Va. www.florafuneralservice.com.
