Elizabeth Kish Obituary

Elizabeth Markle Kish, 74, of Moneta, Va., passed away on Sunday, September 14, 2008, after a long bout with cancer. Born in Floyd, Va., and educated at Floyd High School, she held various secretarial jobs during her life, including her last position as office manager of the faculty secretary pool at Roanoke College from 1970 to 1982. Formerly married to Joseph Wade Dillon, of Floyd, Elizabeth was the mother of four adult children when she married Dr. George Kish in 1980. At that time she also acquired two adult stepchildren. Always looking at the world with childlike wonder herself, Elizabeth was blessed with a total of 12 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren; and she doted over each and every one. In addition to being very involved in the lives of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, she loved to travel. She and George traveled extensively both nationally and internationally. Elizabeth was very involved in the Vinton Wesleyan Church, where she was a cherished member of the congregation and made many friends. She was preceded in death by her father, Brown Markle; mother, Cynthia Markle; and brothers, Curtis and Ralph Markle. Survivors include her husband, Dr. George Kish; daughters, Carolyn Jackson and Tom, of Spartanburg, S.C., Jo Ellen Brock and David, of Gurnee, Ill., and Elaine Weaver, of Bedford County; son, Richard Dillon and Jennifer, of Roanoke; stepchildren, David Kish and Aylett, of Roanoke, and Kathy Kish, of Bluefield, W.Va.; grandchildren, Shane, Melissa Mundy and Morris "Mac," Brandi Fee and David, Katherine Minter, Beth Hale, David Brock Jr. and Stephanie, Jonathan Brock, Sarah Brock, Christine Dillon, Christopher Dillon, Kelly Dillon and John Curtis Jackson; 15 great-grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; three brothers, Herbert Markle and wife, Aldeen, Robert Markle and wife, Elnora, and Charles Markle and wife, Wanda; a sister-in-law, Oveda Markle; and an aunt and uncle, Eleanor and Tony Venecia. Viewing will be held on Tuesday, September 16, 2008, from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 9 p.m. at Oakey's Vinton Chapel, 627 Hardy Road in Vinton. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday, September 17, 2008, at Oakey's Vinton Chapel with interment to follow at Jacksonville Cemetery in Floyd at 3 p.m. Flowers are appreciated or memorial may be made to the Parking Lot Fund of Vinton Wesleyan Church, 246 E. Jefferson Ave., Vinton, Va. 24179. Arrangements by Oakey's Vinton Chapel, 540-982-2221.

Aunt Libby,
It's been a week now since you went home to the Lord and I still don't quite believe our loss is true. We will always love and miss you but will be glad you are there to pave the way for the rest of us.

To all the Family, All I can say is What a great Lady Mrs. Kish was! I am saying nothing more than what each of you know. She had so much love in her that I don't know how she contained it all! The love that she had for the Lord was so much and her desire was so strong on wanting to share it with all of you. If that was the only thing that she could leave behind, to her it would have been the greatest thing she could share and what a legacy! But because she was who she was to each of you, you all have your "own" memories to keep and cherish and comfort you in the many days ahead. George, she loved you so much. That I don't have to tell you or anyone else. May that love carry you each and every day until you meet again. To her children and grandchildren, always keep her memories in your hearts and love your families and others in the same manner as she did. Above all else, love the Lord with all your mind, soul and strength. That is the best thing you can do> God bless each of you and know that many others miss her also and that they are praying for you all.
