Helen DeFelice Obituary

Helen DeFelice, 82, of Roanoke, Va., passed away on Thursday, September 18, 2008, at Raleigh Court Health Care after a long battle with Alzheimer's and Parkinson's Disease. She was preceded by her parents, Philip and Concetta DeFelice; her brother, Carlo DeFelice; and her sister, Gloria DeFelice. She was a native of McDowell County, W.Va. She worked for 30 years as a dedicated nurse anesthetist at Roanoke Memorial Hospital. She received her registered nurse degree from St. Mary's Hospital in Huntington, W.Va. She later received her Certified Nurse Anesthetist Practitioner degree from Cincinnati, Ohio, General Hospital. Helen is survived by her sister, Stella DeFelice, of Roanoke; her brother, Fred DeFelice (Virginia), of Roanoke; and her sister-in-law, Gladys E. DeFelice, of Charleston, W.Va. She is also survived by her nephew, Charles DeFelice (Ann), of Wilmington, Del.; her nieces, Kathryn D. Large (Dan), of Bristol, Tenn., Carla Sue Cook (JR), of Charleston, W.Va., and Jo Ellen Reid (Curt), of Eagle, Wis. The family appreciates the care she received from her caregivers at Raleigh Court Health Care Center. A Catholic Mass Funeral will be held 10 a.m. on Monday, September 22, 2008, at Our Lady of Nazareth Catholic Church. Visitation will be held at Our Lady of Nazareth Catholic Church from 9:30 to 10 a.m. before the services. Burial will be at Sherwood Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Our Lady of Nazareth Catholic Church, 2505 Electric Road, S.W., Roanoke, Va. 24018. Arrangements by Oakey's South Chapel, 540-989-3131.

Dear Stella,
Saw the obituary for Helen when I was looking for someone else. God bless you. You took such good care of her. She was so fortunate to have you. Now she's free from all the pain and discomfort and in the best place ever. I'm sure she's smiling down at you and taking care of her precious sister.

Dear Fred and Stella,
I am so sorry to hear of your loss. Helen was such a wonderful lady with a beautiful smile. Looking into those big eyes would only make your heart melt.I have a lot of treasured memories of Helen, as well as her brother and sister. A family of faith and love.
