John Wimmer Obituary

John Cline Wimmer Sr., of Roanoke, and formerly of Copper Hill, Va., finished his earthly journey and went home to be with his Lord on Thursday evening, October 2, 2008. Cline was born to Banks and Maye Poff Wimmer in 1923, who preceded him in death. Also preceding him were his wife of 53 years, Mary Holt Wimmer; an infant daughter, Sharon Kay Wimmer; and his second wife, Audrey Holt Meador Wimmer. He is survived by one son and three daughters, Betty and Glenn Gallimore, of Rocky Mount, Va., Sarah and Larry King, of Cloverdale, Va., J.C. and Peg Wimmer, of Check, Va., and Karen and Gerald Moran, of Copper Hill, Va. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, Richie and Emily Gallimore, Michael and Laura Gallimore, J.W. and Crista King, Travis Wimmer, Jennifer Wimmer and Mike Webber, and Jason Moran. Survivors also include four stepdaughters and families. Additional survivors include two brothers and six sisters, Lois Pollard, of Salem, Va., Bobby and Geraldine Wimmer, of Welcome, N.C., Christine and Howard Thompson, of Bent Mountain, Va., Shirley Brown, of Salem, Va., Wayne and Sylvia Wimmer, of Salem, Va., Janet Pratt, of Roanoke, Va., Merdie Walters, of Atlanta, Ga., Donna Bond, of Atlanta, Ga.; and numerous brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 4, 2008, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at Oakey's South Chapel on Brambleton Avenue. Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. on Sunday, October 5, 2008, from Copper Hill Church of the Brethren in Copper Hill (Floyd County). The Rev. Maurice Wright will officiate. Interment will follow in Copper Hill Cemetery. Flowers are appreciated or in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Copper Hill Church of the Brethren Building Fund, John D. Harman, Treasurer, P.O. Box 7, Copper Hill, Va. 24079 or the Copper Hill Cemetery Care Fund, c/o Charles Smith, 8358 Deer Run Dr., Copper Hill, Va. 24079. Betty, Sarah, Jay, and Karen - We have many fond memories of Cline as our uncle and also as stepfather. He always had a smile for us whenever we saw him, and he will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
