Emerson Schoonover Obituary

Emerson William (Weaby or Schoonie) Schoonover, 78, of Salem, Va., went home to be with his Lord on Friday, October 3, 2008. He retired as Body Shop Manager at Valley Cadillac-Oldsmobile. Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Ruth Marsico Schoonover; sons, Emerson William Schoonover Jr. and wife, Karen, and Dennis W. Schoonover and wife, Debbie, all of Salem; daughters, Peggy S. Bradley and husband, Bob, and Sharon Schoonover, all of Roanoke; grandchildren, Dennis W. Schoonover Jr. and wife, Lori, Adam Schoonover and wife, Amy, Emerson W. Schoonover III and wife, Christie, Jason Schoonover, Mandy Schoonover, Heather Thurman, Megan Bradley, and Shelly Hamlin; greatgrandchildren, Abby, Taylor, Tanner, Gabriella, and Emma; brothers, Roscoe Schoonover and wife, Mary, of Salem, and Gerald Schoonover and wife, Dorothy, of Roanoke; and sister, Rachel Martin, of Roanoke. The family would like to express a special thanks to the doctors and nurses at the VA Medical Center and the staff of Gentle Shepherd Hospice for their many acts of kindness. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be made to New Grace Baptist Church, 8269 Bradshaw Road, Salem, Va. 24153 or to Gentle Shepherd Hospice, 6045 Peters Creek Road, Roanoke, Va. 24019. Funeral services will be conducted 11 am. Monday, October 6, 2008, at Simpson Funeral Home, 5160 Peters Creek Road, by the Rev. Rodney Cox. Interment will follow in Sherwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Sunday, October 5, 2008, from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. at Simpson Funeral Home, 540-366-0707.
