Thomas Hartwell Glass III

Thomas Hartwell Glass III, 74, of Buena Vista, Va., died on Sunday, October 12, 2008, in Roanoke Memorial Hospital. He was born September 30, 1934, in Lexington, a son of the late Thomas Hartwell Glass Jr. and Elizabeth Knight Glass. He graduated from Bridgewater College in 1957 with a bachelor's degree. Mr. Glass was a member of Christ Episcopal Church where he served on vestry and as a lay reader. He was a member of Buena Vista Lions Club for 46 years, 30 years as secretary; a member of the American Legion for 35 years (including 40 and 8 part of American Legion); a member of the local food bank; and a long-time employee of B.P. Knight & Company and Walmart. He served in Germany while in the United States Army. Surviving are his wife, Ann Hamilton Glass; children and their spouses, Rock and Mary White, of Glen Allen, Va., Owen and Beverly White, of New Bern, N.C., Aleida E. White, of Christiansburg, Va., W. Walt and Kathi White, of Sandy, Utah, and Joseph Glass, of Woodmere, Ohio; nine grandchildren; and one brother, Benjamin K. Glass, of Moneta, Va. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. on Wednesday, October 15, 2008, at Christ Episcopal Church with the Rev. Jackson Hershbell officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery.
