Jennie Mayo Obituary

Angels were dispatched from Heaven on Wednesday, October, 15, 2008, to the bedside of Deaconess Jennie Bett Brown Mayo. She responded to God's call peacefully and quietly with her family by her side. Deaconess Mayo was born on July 4, 1913, to Late Robert and Susie Poteat Brown in Caswell County, N.C. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Mason Mayo; loving granddaughter, Lisa Smith Belcher; five brothers; and two sisters. She retired from the Burrell Memorial Hospital after 30 years of service. She leaves to cherish her memory six children, Nancy Cobb, of Detroit, Mich., Mary Mayo, of Jamaica, N.Y., Frank (Carol) Mayo, of Dallas, Texas, Dorothy Little, Barbara Smith, and Patricia Jenkins, of Roanoke, Va.; seven grandchildren, James Cobb, of New Mexico, Kim Mulkey, of Tampa, Fla., Cheryl Mayo, Malcom Mayo, and Kupiral Mayo, of Dallas, Texas, Darren Little and Monica Lyons, of Roanoke, Va.; 11 greatgrandchildren; two greatgreat-grandchildren; two sisters, Elna Page, of Ruffins, N.C., and Cleo Boswell, of Reidsville, N.C.; five nieces, Gladys Parker, Marvel Mayo, Emma and Carolyn Woods, all of Roanoke, Va., and Cathia Stewart, of Milton, N.C.; and a host of relatives and many special friends. The family would like to thank the staff of the Friendship Retirement Community, the Good Samaritan Hospice, caregiver, Mamie Jones, and Dr. Alice M. Inouye, for the excellent care and emotional support given to our mother and our family. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. on Monday, October 20, 2008, at Jerusalem Baptist Church with the Rev. Floyd Gregory Jr. officiating. The interment will be in Williams Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, October 19, 2008, in the Hamlar-Curtis Chapel.
