Woodson Tuck Obituary

Woodson C. Tuck, 79 , of Bedford, Va., went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, October 15, 2008. He was born on Friday, May 17, 1929, in Roanoke County, a son of the late Robert Coleman Tuck and Clara Stevens Tuck. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Marlin and Corbin Tuck. He is survived by his loving, devoted wife of 54 years, Mary Christine Overstreet Tuck; his children, Vincent M. Tuck and Joyce Lee, Patty L. Cassidy, Robert W. Tuck and wife, Ida Welch Tuck, Sharon T. Crawford, Savada T. Martin and husband, Thomas L. Martin, Kenneth "Butch" Jones and wife, Tammy Jones, and Carolyn J. Williams and husband, Charles E. Williams. He is survived by his brother, Manual S. Tuck and his wife, Judy Tuck. Mr. Tuck is also survived by 22 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; six step great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and a very special friend, Toby Dalton. He was a member of the Garden City Baptist Church and served as a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne. He was a charter Moose member for 50 years. He was an employee of the Rubatex Corporation for 20 years and served in the Rubatex Fire Brigade. He was a self-employed carpenter for the remaining years. He enjoyed NASCAR, horse racing, and the Washington Redskins. Mr. Tuck was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and a true friend to all. The family would like to thank the staff at the Salem V.A. Hospital for all of their care, support and compassion shown to our loved one and our family. Also many thanks to the Bedford Hospice Care and their staff. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. on Monday, October 20, 2008, at Updike Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Wayne Murphy officiating. Interment, with Military Honors by American Legion Post #16, will follow in Virginia Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Sunday, October 19, 2008, from 3 to 6 p.m. at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford, Va.
