Catherine Smith Obituary

Catherine Lavelle Smith, 81, left her earthly home to be with her Heavenly Father on Tuesday, October 21, 2008, at Roanoke Memorial Hospital. A lifelong resident of Pulaski, Va., she was born on July 19, 1927, and was the daughter of the late William and Lelia Smith. She was preceded in death by her devoted husband of 52 years, Edward C. Smith; and brothers, William (Bill) Smith Jr. and Elwood L. Smith. Catherine was a devoted sister, wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a longtime member of Community Christian Church in Newbern, Va., and continually sought to serve the community around her. Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Eddie C. and Melody D. Smith, of Pulaski; granddaughter, Kristin A. Smith, of Knoxville, Tenn.; brothers, Neville T. Smith, of Pulaski, and Bobby R. Smith, of Blue Springs, Miss.; sisters, Mrs. Daphna Edwards, of Delton, Mrs. Melva Wade, of Pulaski, and Mrs. Nell Covey and husband, Bill, of Pulaski. The family will receive friends on Friday evening, October 24, 2008, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Community Christian Church, Newbern. Funeral service for family and friends will immediately follow at 7 p.m. with Minister Ernie Depew officiating. Graveside service will be held 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 25, 2008, at Highland Memory Gardens Mausoleum for family and friends. The family will be meeting at the residence of Eddie and Melody Smith, Pulaski, Va.
