James R. Ballowe

1928 - 2008

James R. Ballowe, 80, of Coleman Falls, Va., died on Monday, October 27, 2008, in Avante' at Lynchburg. He was the loving husband of Betty Parker Ballowe for over 59 years. Born July 29, 1928, in Big Stone Gap, he was the son of the late James W. Ballowe and Dora Beard Ballowe. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy Mae Ballowe. James served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a retired supervisor from Owens Illinois with 41 years of service; a founding member of Big Island Fire Department and a member of American Legion Post 16. He loved to fish, hunt and work on small engines. In addition to his wife, he leaves to cherish his memory a son, Stacey D. Ballowe and wife, Kim, of Christiansburg; a sister, Ann B. Wright, of Boonsboro; two sister-in-laws, June Alley and Carolyn Conner, of Forest; and other relatives and friends. A graveside service will be conducted 11 a.m. on Thursday, October 30, 2008, at Virginia Memorial Park by the Rev. Bryon LePere with Military Honors rendered by American Legion Post #16. The family will receive friends at the residence 1151 Walker Road in Coleman Falls. Following the service family and friends are invited to the home of June Alley, Middle View Drive in Forest.
