John Dunn Obituary

John William Dunn Sr. was called to rest on Friday, October 31, 2008. He was born on January 29, 1919, in Natural Bridge, Va., to the late Warren and Nannie Combs Dunn. He was a devoted husband to the late Virginia Dunn. John was a faithful member of First Baptist Church, where he was chairman of the Deacon Board and also held membership in several church clubs. Those left to cherish his memory are his daughters, Jacqueline Neal, of Upper Marlboro, Md.; his caregiver, Mary Virginia Stephens, of Natural Bridge, Va. and Ruth (Leonard) Stewart; devoted son-in-law of Lexington, Va.; two sons, Rev. Jonn (Doris) Dunn Jr., of Fort Washington, Md. and David (Pamela) Dunn, of Natural Bridge, Va.; two brothers, Charles Dunn, of Lexington, Va. and Junius (Ramona) Dunn, of Natural Bridge, Va.; two sisters-in-law, Doris (Henry) Pettis, of Glasgow, Va. and Catherine Dunn, of Harrisonburg, Va.; 18 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and devoted friends. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, November 6, 2008, at First Baptist Church, 385 Buckhill Rd., Natural Bridge, Va., with the Rev. Mark McCoy Sr. officiating. The interment will be in Mountain View Cemetery, Natural Bridge, Va. Friends may call for viewing at Hamlar-Curtis Funeral Home on Wednesday, from 12 p.m. until 4 p.m. Viewing will resume at the church after 5 p.m. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at First Baptist Church, Natural Bridge, Va. I will miss seeing Mr. Dunn and waving to him. He always seemed to have insight into whatever was happening before him. I especially remember one evening when Mr. Combs passed that he and Mr. Hubbard told me some of their childhood stories and what it was like to grow up in this area.
