Virginia Mundy Cassell

1915 - 2008

Virginia Mundy Cassell, 93, of Roanoke, died Monday evening, November 3, 2008. Virginia was born in Botetourt County on October 28, 1915. She was a daughter of the late A.P. and Elsie Brewbaker Mundy. Virginia was a faithful and charter member of St. Philip Lutheran Church. She was also retired from General Motor Lines, and a volunteer with the American Red Cross with 14 years of service. Virginia was a very talented, accomplished and lovely lady who was loved by all. Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, Robert S. Cassell; her brothers, Cline and Fred Mundy; her sisters, Lois Firestone, Janice Coffey and Mildred Bell; and her son-in-law, Charles (Chotsie) W. Hancock. Virginia is survived by her daughters, Helen Hancock, of Roanoke, and Carol Sue Burroughs and husband, Ed, of Salem; grandson, Scott Burroughs and wife, Robin, of Palmer, Alaska; granddaughter, Kelly Mackay and husband, Scot, of Atlanta, Georgia; and numerous nieces, nephews and special first cousins. Funeral services will be held noon Thursday, November 6, 2008, at Oakey's North Chapel with the Rev. David C. Derrick officiating. Interment will follow at Sherwood Memorial Park. Family will receive friends Wednesday, November 5, 2008 from 1 to 3 and 5 to 7 p.m. at Oakey's North Chapel, 540-362-1237.
