Louis Tucker Obituary

le bon temps roule Louis T. Tucker, of Roanoke, died October, 29, 2008, at the age of 85. Mr. Tucker distinguished himself with his intelligence, hard work, humor and profound mischief. Having endured many, many difficulties of nearly every imaginable kind, his survival to age 85 is miraculous. From Cleveland and Roanoke to Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, and Provence, France, Mr. Tucker was well travelled and proficient in French from his time spent in Europe during World War II. He was loyal to many of his friends, a fine raconteur, and devoted to wine, women and song. If you happen to be a praying person, please say one for Louis. A graveside service will be held 1 p.m. Friday, November 7, 2008, at Evergreen Burial Park with Dr. George Anderson officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Roanoke Area Ministries.

I am a nurse and I knew Mr. Tucker only briefly and I did not know much about him. But my sense of him was always that he was a very nice man. I was pleased to read the obituary that described him as I imagined he must have been in life; when he was out and about. I used to walk into his room and he would say, "Pass me a cigarette" or "How did you get in here? Was the door unlocked?" I would say, "Yeah, it was unlocked but it's all right. I'll make sure it's locked when I leave."

Such a nice obituary and good to read for a nurse who cared for the man in the last days of his life.

We were truly blessed to have known Mr. Tucker, and enjoyed his humor. He was one for the history books. He's now at a restful place. God Bless Him.

I had never heard of Mr. Tucker prior to the Roanoke Times issue of 11/5/2008. However, upon reading his tribute, I wish I had met the man who is both given to profound mischief AND raconteurship. Oh! The stories he might tell! Perhaps we shall meet someday...
