Kerry Lotts Obituary

Kerry W. (Wick) Lotts, 70, a well-known resident of Abingdon, went to be with the Lord Tuesday, November 4, 2008, at the home of his mother-in-law, Mrs. Dora Mae Eggers, after a courageous 12-plus year battle with cancer. He was born in Rockbridge County, Virginia, on February 28, 1938, a son of the late Lloyd Newton Lotts and Pinkie Perkins Lotts Richardson. He and his family lived in the Natural Bridge and Blackstone areas during the early years of his life. He was a member of the Virginia Army National Guard and worked for James Lees and Sons Carpet in Glasgow, Virginia, for many years before starting his 40-year career as a truck driver. He drove for Blue Ridge Transfer out of Roanoke, Virginia, McLean Trucking out of Raphine, Virginia, and Lebanon, Pennsylvania, and for ABF Freight System in Wytheville, Virginia, for 18 years until his retirement in 2001. He was a member of Teamsters Union, Local 171, Roanoke, Virginia. He was a faithful member of Greendale Chapel and had served as a Deacon for the past several years. Wick loved the Lord, his church, his family and friends, and was never ashamed to give his testimony and talk to anyone about the Lord and salvation. He was always known for his sense of humor, quick wit, and love for people. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by the love of his life, his daughter, Kimberly Lotts Campbell; and his father-in-law, Richard L. Eggers.
Survivors include his loving wife of 48 years, Phyllis Eggers Lotts, of the home; his very special grandson, Joshua Brock Campbell, of Lexington, Va.; his mother-in-law, Dora Mae Eggers, of Abingdon, Va.; three sisters, Judy Cash and husband, Jeter, of Natural Bridge, Va., Yvonne Reed and husband, Seaweed, of Glasgow, Va., and Edith Petty and husband, Gerald, of Buchanan, Va.; three brothers, Adolphus (Pete) Lotts and wife, Grace, of Knoxville, Tenn.; Roger Lotts and wife, Verna, of Leavenworth, Wash., and Joe Lotts, of Mooresville, N.C.; brothers-in-law, Larry Eggers and wife, Jo, of Buchanan, Va., and Jerry Eggers and wife, Dorinda, of Abingdon, Va.; niece, Laura Eggers Greer and her children, Aaron Greer and Sarah Greer, of Abingdon, Va.; and several additional nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Kerry W. (Wick) Lotts will be conducted 11 a.m. Thursday, November 6, 2008, in the Greendale Chapel with the Rev. Jerry A. Eggers officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Hills Memory Gardens. Pallbearers will be Aaron Greer, Bobby Barr, Eddie McConnell, Roy McNew, Zane Pierce, Don Minnick, Jerry Hale and Roger Morrison. Honorary pallbearers will be the following ministers, the Revs. V.N. (Bud) Phillips, Gavin Reed, Myron Guiler, Paul Bufford, Paul Ketron, Doug Findley, Bob McCormick and Austin Cook, members of the board of Greendale Chapel, men of Greendale Chapel, Carl Dudley, Nash Johnston, past and present employees of ABF, his many truck-driving buddies and his many host of friends. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Greendale Chapel and anytime at the home of Dora Mae Eggers, 17480 Jerry Lane, Abingdon, Va. The family would like to express their appreciation to everyone for their every act of kindness and special thanks to the church family, the staff of Frost Funeral Home, and the staff of Hospice of Southwest Virginia, Eula Grant and Patsy Sexton. Phyllis, Jerry, and Family
Please accept my sympathy in your loss. Even though it has been a long time since I've seen Wick, I still remember his smile and his zeal for life. His suffering is now being rewarded. Keep your memories close to your heart in this difficult time. You are in my thoughts and prayers. God bless.

Phyllis & Family,
It was a pleasure to work with Wick for all the good years at ABF, but it was an even greater pleasure to know & love him as a fellow Christian. He offered many prayers for many cancer patients including many of my freinds and family. He always lifted the spirits of others with his GOD given gift of communication. Though I mourn the loss of Wick's physical presence with us, I rejoice that GOD has called such a marvelous individual to HIS service in heaven. I pray that GOD's comfort will be with you and the family during this time. Wick's memory as well as his many witty quips will live with us forever.
