Maude Kelly Obituary

Maude Rose Harris Kelly, a Roanoke Valley resident since 1953, died quietly in her sleep November 2, 2008. She was 96. Prior to settling in the Roanoke Valley, Mrs. Kelly lived in Florida, West Virginia and Kentucky, where she was born to Margie Cassidy and the Reverend Walter Chiles Harris. For more than 20 years, Maude Rose Kelly and her loving husband, Vernon Byron Kelly, were small business owners in West Salem. Mr. Kelly passed away in 1978. Mrs. Kelly also was predeceased by her son, Vernon Byron Kelly Jr.; a sister, Annabelle Harris Downey; and brothers, Clyde, Donald and the Reverend Glenn Harris, former pastor at Locust Grove United Methodist Church. Mrs. Kelly is survived by a second son, Donald and daughter-in-law, Anne; four grandchildren, T. Byron Kelly, Amy Kelly Ostrander, Donna Kelly Beeson and Glenn Kelly; and six great-grandchildren. Visitation is 10 a.m. Friday, November 7, 2008, at Lotz Funeral Home, 1330 East Main Street, Salem, Va. Services will be held 11 a.m. at Lotz Chapel followed by interment at Sherwood Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family requests any remembrances be made to Alzheimer's Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave., Floor 17, Chicago, Ill. 60601-7633; notification to Don Kelly, 213 Prince Street, Alexandria, Va. 22314.

Don, I'm so sorry to hear of your mother's passing. I'll never forget all the fun we had growing up and especially the time your parents took us to the Senators/Yankees game in Washington, DC. Your mom was a super lady! Bobby
