James Hagan Obituary

Mr. James (Bryan) Hagan, 39, of Raleigh, N.C., passed away November 5, 2008. A native of Fredericksburg, Va., Bryan was born March 21, 1969, to James Dennis and Connie Harshbarger Hagan. Bryan was a man who loved adrenaline and even achieved a land speed record for his custom built Harley. He was a master bike builder and owned his own company Iron Thunder Cycles in Raleigh. He was into skydiving, playing drums and bass, 80's music, and loved spending time in the mountains with his friends and family. He loved the military and all his 82nd Airborne brothers. More than anything else he loved his family. His world revolved around his wife, Stacy and his daughter, Jaclyn. His love and affection for the two most important women in his life was always second to none, and he loved nothing more that to see them smile. Bryan is survived by his wife, Stacy Deman Hagan; daughter, Jaclyn Hagan; parents, Dennis and Connie Hagan; sister, Tammy Tilghman; brother, Jacob Hagan; and a host of friends that will surely never forget him. A memorial service will be held Monday, November 10, 2008 at 1 p.m. in the Montlawn Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. prior to the service, at Montlawn Funeral Home. Arrangements by Montlawn Funeral Home, 2911 S. Wilmington Street, Raleigh. (www.montlawn.com)

To all of you who have made such thoughtful and heartwarming entries to Bryan's guestbook, his mother and I offer our sincerest thanks. Bryan was a special child from the day he was born until his recent death. Connie and I feel privileged to have raised such a son who was so loved and respected for both his genius and his humanity. He is deeply missed by his entire family as well as by all of you. Our faith and your warm comments, in addition to the support of our church family and numerous friends, help to sustain us through this painful and difficult period. Thanks again. Dennis, Connie and Family,
I’m truly sorry to hear about the lost of your son. Although, I personally never knew Bryan, I'm sure from reading his guest book, that like his father who was a spark in the field of engineering and technology, Bryan was a spark in his own right.

December 6, 2008

I only knew of Bryan through his dad, Denny, who spoke of his son with great pride. Based on what Denny has said about him, and all the comments in this guest book, there's no doubt in by mind that I would have liked Bryan immediately. Byran's story makes me feel very sad.

Dear Dennis, Connie, and Family,
We are so sorry to hear about the loss of Bryan. We remember him as a handsome, active, lovable, little boy. As we read the guest book entries, we feel proud of all of his wonderful accomplishments. Always we have enjoyed the stories both of you shared about the events of your children as they have grown to adulthood. Now we feel great sorrow for you and his family. Our prayer is that the great emptiness you now feel will be replaced with fine memories of Bryan's life and knowing that he is in the safe and loving hands of our Lord and Savior.

I did not know Bryan personally but knew his life through a dear friend Joe Crandall. I wish I had met him because from what I had heard of Bryan he was a good man and a very talented one. My prayers go out to the family and friends. I know you will all miss him. God has him now and I am sure he will be looking down on his family and friends always. Carry him always in your hearts! With deepest sorrow.

The news of Bryan's passing has been hard for myself and my wife. It just seems not even a month ago we were at the shop talking with him about life and talking about motorcycles (of course). He was/is a legend of motorcycles and we will never forget his kindness and generosity. I feel blessed to have known him. A truly remarkable man and a gift to the community.

Bryan was a man that was the epitome of “what you saw was what you got”. I remember him as a man who refused to play games with people, and he was adamant that he “didn’t have time for nonsense” like politics and petty disputes. What he DID have time for was people. He was amazingly attuned to other people’s feelings and put quality and master motorcycle builder workmanship in each job. There is a motorcycle procession send off that is a custom among bikers that forever perpetuates the memory of a friend, allowing them to ride forevermore in the wind on the Colors of their brothers and sisters. It's a tribute, a sign of respect, and a living memorial to Bryan. We'll never forget you, Bryan.

Stacy & Family,
It is with great regret & sympathy that I sign this book on behalf of Rolling Thunder NC-4.

Bryan proved his friendship many times over through his loyalty to all who passed through the doors of Iron Thunder, but more importantly he proved his love of country & devotion to duty through his enlistment with the 82nd & his return as a civilian to Iraq to work with the troops there.
Bryan has left his mark etched on the winds of this community & in the hearts of all the veterans who are priviliged to have known him.

We met Bryan and Stacy when I thought my husband was going thru a mid life crisis 3 bikes later I believe it was Bryan's passion for bikes and free spirited attitude that cultivated our love for bikes more and more. On many occassions just to see his eyes light up at a new design or project he was working on was enough to keep us there for hours. We loved him dearly and will miss him greatly. May God grant peace to the loved ones he left behind and fill the hole that his loss has created.

November 9, 2008

My wife and I met Bryan a little over two years ago. We found him to be an awesome person who loved pushing the limits on motorcycles, planes, parachutes, Drums, and fireworks.
As an A.D.D. brother and fellow musician I connected with him instantly. Whenever we were in the studio jamming, three hours would fly by like 10 minutes. Each session was a pumping natural high. He was an intense drummer and had just mastered the bass guitar.
Bryan's dreams and goals for Iron Thunder and the Iron Thunder family will continue as we mourn yet, at the same time celebrate Bryan's life.
"Yep" Bryan we will miss your infectious smlie. You will always be in our heart.
