Kathleen Sizemore Obituary

Kathleen Ann Sizemore, 62, of Roanoke, Va., passed away peacefully in the presence of her family on Monday, November 10, 2008. Kathy's courageous battle with cancer never stopped her from putting her family and friends first. She was a volunteer EMT for Windsor Rescue Squad and Mount Pleasant First Aid Crew. Kathy volunteered at the VA Medical Center in Salem and was a member of Our Lady Of Nazareth Catholic Church, where she served on the fellowship committee. Kathy was preceded in death by her parents, Maurice and Mary Margaret Henisse; and also by a brother, Patrick Henisse. She is survived by her husband, Bill Sizemore; two sons and daughters-in-law, Steven Sizemore and wife, Becky, and David Sizemore and wife, Ashley; six grandchildren, Meghan, Brad, Tyler, Julie, Belle, and Austin; and many other loving relatives and friends also survive. The family would like to express special thanks to the Physicians and Staff of Lewis-Gale Medical Center for their loving care given to Kathy. A Funeral Mass will be conducted 10 a.m. on Friday, November 14, 2008, at Our Lady Of Nazareth Catholic Church with the Rev. Msgr. Joseph P. Lehman officiating. Burial will follow in St. Andrew's Diocesan Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made in Kathy's name to Our Lady Of Nazareth Ministries, 2505 Electric Road, S.W. , Roanoke, Va. 24018. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, November 12, 2008, and again from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, November 13, 2008, at Oakey's Vinton Chapel, 540-982-2221.

Bill.
It's been just a little over a month since Kathy passed away and it's still hard to believe she is gone. I'm glad we were able to have one last vacation with the two of you last Feb. Even though Kathy wasn't feeling up to par she never lost her sense of humor. She said several times no matter what happens she was glad for the time we spent together. Tom and I will always cherish that vacation. We know the next couple of weeks will be hard for you because of what would have been Kathys 63rd birthday and Christmas which she loved but we know with the help of your family and friends and Kathy watching over you; you will be okay. Our thoughts and prayers are always with you and your family. Love. Tom and Mary Lou

Bill, I was saddened to learn of Kathy's passing. I so enjoyed our time together in Isle of Wight. You both put the needs of others in front of your own needs, and in today's world that is unfortunately a rare quality.

Kathy was a real fighter when it came to what she believed in, and it seems in her dealings with cancer. I am proud to say that I have known, and been a friend, of Kathy and yourself, and will keep the both of you in my thoughts and prayers everyday as I glance upon the stein given to me by you many years ago.

Dear Bill, Steve, Dave and family:

Clara and I were truly saddened to learn of Kathy's passing. We hold such fond memories of all the places we've been and all the things we have done together. As we contemplate these things, one thing becomes abundantly clear...we are always smiling at the thought of Kathy. So, although Kathy leaves us...her memory, her kindness, her caring, and...yes...her antics leave us with a smile on our faces and a deep sense of loss in our hearts. We are blessed to have known her. Billy...you, the boys, the grands and the Sizemore family remain in our thoughts.

Bill and Family I am so very sad to hear of Kathy's passing on Monday. I knew she was having a rough time but did not know it was time for God to bring her home. Just remember she will be waiting for all of you one day in heaven. I have thought of her and prayed often in the last few months knowing how difficult it has been for Bill and the rest of you. Please keep positive thoughts about her passing and always remember the many many people she touched so dearly in her life on earth. Love always, Carl & Shirley Brockett

Dear Bill and Family,
As a new EMT in Windsor, Kathy took me under her wing and showed me the way it should be done with love, compassion, and a little elbow grease. It broke my heart when you were leaving Windsor. When we did the final call for you both, it was the best departing gift we could think of. God sounded the tones in heaven and Kathy answered the call. She is now in heavens 'Angel Squad', watching over and comforting those of us who remain. She touched so many lives and made them better for it. Her light will shine through all of us who knew her. My prayers and love are with you. God Bless you all!

Dear Bill, When I heard the news, I didn't want to believe it that Kathy was really gone. It doesn't seem possible that cancer could ravage her body so quickly and completely and it's hard to understand the reality that there was really nothing more that could be done. I can't say I understand your grief, but I can say that I send you my love and prayers. I do know my recent experience with baby Hector and the fight that we fought together...for life, for time, for hope. We lost this time and that loss broke my heart too. You've had experience with many painful experiences in life, but none will compare to this one. You've had big losses, but none are like losing your best friend and lover. This is a loss that will leave a huge hole in your heart that nothing will fill. That's okay. Time will ease the pain, but it won't happen right away. It will come and go like waves...grief is a process. Let yourself move through it at your own pace. Don't rush it but don't languish in it. Keep your chin up. Hang in there. Stick close to God. You may feel angry with Him right now, but in reality He'll be your strongpoint right now. I'm praying for you and sending you hugs and my thoughts. I wish very much that I could be there for Kathy's memorial service, and that I could have said goodbye. But for now, know I will be there with you in spirit and hope that I will be ready to meet Kathy in heaven. There's no words that will make this huge loss any better. But please know that I care.
Love,
Jenni Goodwin

I'm so sorry for your loss. I remember the first time meeting Kathy and Bill at Windsor Rescue, they were both the reasons for my success. I know Kathy will be missed, she was a very special person, and I'm priviledged to have gotten to know her. I'll never forget Kathy and I discussing if we ever had to call Windsor, she said that if she ever fell in the shower she would just pull down the shower curtain and cover up until they arrived. This is one story everytime I think about her comes up. I pray that God will be your comfort during this loss of a special person! God Bless!

I learned many valuable things from Kathy. The most important one was how to have faith and always trust in the Lord.
She had such a wonderful way of teaching, always making you thirsty for knowledge.
She was the good person in the crowd. Her smile, laughter and love for life were contagious.
Kathy was an angel who walked on earth. Now she is flying high in the heavens with God. I will miss her. Love, Shirley
