Ernest Overstreet Obituary

Ernest M. (Ernie) Overstreet Sr., 78, of Roanoke, Va., went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, November 12, 2008. He was a longtime member of the DAV and a member of the Celebration Church of God. He was retired from the United States Air Force and also served in the U.S. Army in the Korean Conflict. Ernie was also retired as a maintenance supervisor with the Roanoke City Schools. He is preceded in death by his parents, Samuel and Annie Overstreet; his former wife, Martha Virginia Overstreet; a daughter, Linda Faye Overstreet; brothers, Jack, Jim and Willie Overstreet; and sisters, Bessie O. Fulk and Twiler Jean Overstreet. Ernie was the oldest of 15 children. Surviving are his wife, Sharon Brooks Overstreet; two sons, Ernest M. Overstreet Jr. and wife, Kathleen, and David Overstreet, all of Albuquerque, N.M.; stepson, Randy Light, of Bedford; five grandchildren, Denise, Lee, Phillip, Lauren and Jennifer; five greatgrandchildren; step granddaughter, Crystal Killinger, of Salem; brothers, Sam Overstreet Jr. and wife, Edith, of Bedford, Stewart Overstreet, of Moneta, and John Overstreet, of Roanoke; sisters, Annie Mae O. Creasy, and Shirley O. Hamilton and husband, Bobby, all of Bedford, Mary O. Cumby and husband, Johnny, and Alice Overstreet, all of Moneta, Peggy O. Scott and husband, Billy, of Goodview, and Mavis O. Moody and husband, Don, of Robbinsville, N.C.; and many nieces and nephews. The family would like to give special thanks to his physicians and the nursing staff of the VA Medical Center I.C.U. department for all their kindness they provided during his illness. Funeral services will be held noon on Saturday, November 15, 2008, at Oakey's North Chapel with the Rev. Samuel Belisle officiating. Interment with Military Honors will be at Cedar Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, November 14, 2008, at Oakey's North Chapel, 540-362-1237.
