John Wiggins Obituary

John Douglas (Doug) Wiggins, of Charlottesville, Va., died on the afternoon of Wednesday, November 12, 2008. Doug was born on October 1, 1946, in Roanoke, Va., and has blessed his beloved wife, three sons, two grandchildren, family, and friends with love, devotion, and generosity throughout his life.
Doug was the oldest of three children born to the late John Jerome Wiggins and Violet Long Wiggins. He was a graduate of Roanoke Catholic High School, and held a bachelor of science in electrical engineering from the University of Virginia, where he enjoyed playing rugby and lacrosse.
Doug valiantly served his country in the United States Marine Corps and is a veteran of the Vietnam War during which he received a Purple Heart, Combat Action Ribbon, and Presidential Unit Citation.
Doug was a devoted family man, instilling strong values of faith, honesty, and integrity in his children and grandchildren. He lived by his life philosophy of "do the right thing for the right reason and you never have regrets."
Doug was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, and just being outside. He also was a member of the Single Action Shooting Society and enjoyed competitive shooting. He thoroughly enjoyed Cavalier sports particularly football, basketball, and lacrosse.
Doug was a devote Catholic and faithful member of Holy Comforter Church. He leaves to cherish his memory, his beloved wife, Priscilla Ann (Pam); sons, Joseph Paul, John David and wife, Kristy, Adam Glenn Robert and wife, Jessie; and grandchildren, Robert and Rachel. He is also survived by his mother, Violet Long Wiggins, of Roanoke; sister, Dr. Diane Wiggins, of Roanoke; brother, Gary Wiggins, of Winston-Salem, N.C.; and his mother and father-in-law, Robert and Terry Meyerhoff, of Hardy, Va.
A funeral mass will be held 11 a.m. on Monday, November 17, 2008, in the Holy Comforter Catholic Church. Entombment will follow in Monticello Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends on Sunday evening, November 16, 2008, at the Hill and Wood Funeral Home, Charlottesville, Va., from 6 until 8 p.m. There will be a Rosary service held at 6 p.m. that evening.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation, 18251 Quantico Gateway Drive, Triangle, Va. 22172, the Love In Action at the Holy Comforter Catholic Church, 208 East Jefferson Street, Charlottesville, Va. 22902 or to a charity of your choice. Pam,
I am not sure if you would remember me as it has been a couple of years since you and Doug came up for a Sales meeting here in Exeter at Sylvania.
I am so very sorry for you loss. Doug was a wonderful person. I will miss not working with him. He always made me laugh with his stories of the grandchildren and others. My husband and Doug just starting e-mailing each other about hunting and their love of guns. I only wish that they could have met, they had so much in common regarding hunting and guns.
Please express out sorrow to your family.
