Pauline Rose Steele

Mrs. Pauline Rose Steele, 98, of Covington, died Wednesday, November 19, 2008. She was the wife of the late Walter Garland Steele. Mrs. Steele was born September 23, 1910, in Rich Patch, the daughter of the late Lewis Jackson Ryder Rose and Virginia Davis Bush Rose. Mrs. Steele is survived by two daughters, Sylvia S. Echols and husband, James C. Echols, of Blacksburg, and Rosemary S. Kassner and husband, Michael R. Kassner, of Charlotte, N.C.; seven grandchildren, Jeffrey A. Echols and wife, Peggy, of Roanoke, Glenn D. Echols and wife, Robin, of Roanoke, Carol E. Banks and husband, Johnny, of Marietta, Ga., Sarah E. McLeod and husband, Sandy, of Minneapolis, Minn., Loan K. Thompson and husband, Frank, of Concord, N.C., Mandi S. Dennis and husband, Mark. of Bristol, Millie Anne Vandevender and husband, Brent. of Seattle, Wash.; 11 great-grandchildren, Brian D. Echols, of Rock Hill, S.C., Alexander R. Echols and wife, Kelly, of Virginia Beach, Julia M. Echols, of Roanoke, William R. Echols, of Roanoke, John J. "Jack" Banks III, Sarah Steele Banks, J. Ryan Banks, all of Marietta, Ga., Elizabeth "Ellie" Dennis, of Bristol, Samuel A. Dennis, of Bristol, Gabriella "Gabby" Dennis, of Bristol, Abraham A. Vandevender, of Seattle, Wash.; a daughter-inlaw, Anne G. Steele; a sister-in-law, Violet S. Rose; a number of nieces and nephews; and two special cousins. A funeral service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday, November 22, 2008, at First Presbyterian Church. The family will receive friends on Friday evening from 7 until 8:30 p.m. at Loving Funeral Home. Memorial tributes take the form of contributions to First Presbyterian Church, 185 N.
